IT MAY HAVE been a social game of rugby union, but some of the Gladstone Rugby Old Goats wound back the clock during an exhibition match against Bundaberg Rumruckers.

One of those players to do so was Brian England and it has been many years since he took to the field at Marley Brown.

"It's always been a good surface, but the top part of the grand stand has changed a lot," England said of the ground which he previously played on in the mid-1980s.

"It's a good chance for rugby to have it played here instead of at Meteors where there are power lines in the way whenever there is a high ball kicked."

GROGS were too good on the day, but the players reminisced their halcyon days.

After starting out rugby as a 10-year-old, England played through the ranks here for the QASC Red Devils in league and for the Phantoms Rugby Union Club.

"I finished league in 86 and union in 88," England said.

One of his biggest thrills was playing in the Rugby Masters World Cup in Argentina in 2014.

"Six weeks before that I done ligaments in my right knee, but I wore a knee brace," England said.

The concept of having a master's match is a winner as it brings back players together.

"I've always had connections with the GROGS and have co-friends from other associations," England said.

Meanwhile Gladstone Rugby Union Football Club Goats bounced back from last week's Frenchville humiliation to beat Colts 38-0 at Marley Brown on Saturday night

In a dominant attacking and defensive display by the local side, the Goats piled on six tries with wingers Craig Henderson and Adam Edminston dominant. The pair scored five tries which pleased coach Bernie Tamakehu.
